Am pleasantly surprised that Ronin's debut album is slogging up the charts steadily. Surprise, surprise, surprise.....a very pleasant surprise indeed.
Its like.....suddenly the local music scene hit its own watershed period.
Releasing a debut album is already a big thing ( at least to me)....to see it moving up the HMV charts was another "WOW"..... gosh.....I know, i am gushing......its not that we havent had any local bands all the while. But I guess rock bands never really did make it here. We had our own fair share of folksy, hip-hoppish ones.....not really my cup of tea.
Ronin is easily one of the most entertaining live rock bands in town. ( okay, prob got a soft spot for them ....vkei inspired....maybe. Although i suspect only Levan Wee is....heehee)
They might not be as rock sorlid or matured in terms of delivery and technical skills, but hey, which band wasnt raw in the beginning. Give these guys a chance at least...^o^
Back to Ronin's debut album...DO OR DIE....hmmmmm, the cover reminded me of....strangely....X-Japan's legendary Vanishing Vision indies release.
neeways, back to their debut album launch gig last week - judging from the crowd that turned up, Ronin has had a good start with Do or Die.
I hope to see and hear more from them.
